Asian American Health Awareness Week at DGSOM

Board Applicant Mixer

Are you interested in being on APAMSA board for next year but have questions about what some of the positions entail? Would you like to mingle w/the MS2s? Or do you just want some free food? =) Please come out to the APAMSA social this Thurs, 2/17 at 7pm in Cypress 124(Weyburn)! The current board will be there to answer any of your questions. Apply for the APAMSA 2011-2012 Board!

Dear Class of 2014,

The Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) at UCLA is excited to invite the class to apply for the 2011-2012 Executive Board! Listed below are all of the open officer positions. If you have questions about a position, please contact current board members directly (names and emails are provided below). All members of the class of 2014 are invited to apply regardless of background or previous involvement.

Applicants must send a brief (1/2 page or less) statement of interest per position to apamsaucladgsom@gmail.com by Saturday, February 19 at 12 noon. Confirmation replies will be sent at that time. Applicants may pursue up to three (3) positions, and should list them in order of preference. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to attend a casual mixer with the current board at Weyburn Terrace on Thursday, February 17th. We will be asking for RSVPs for the event closer to the date.

The 2011-2012 Board will assume full duties after a transition period, during Block 4 in mid-March.

* President: Leads and directs the Executive Board and oversees UCLA APAMSA's mission as a whole, represents the chapter within the medical school, and on the regional and national levels (one position). Angelico Razon (razon@ucla.edu)

* Internal Vice President: Coordinates APAMSA health fairs in under-served communities at multiple sites, in collaboration with APA Health CARE (up to three positions). Note: applications for IVP are due on 1/31. If you applied for the IVP position, your application has been retained, and selection will occur along with the rest of the board. You are free, and encouraged, to apply to other positions, and should reply by the stated deadline with IVP ranked according to your preference. * Hepatitis B Coordinator
: Oversees education initiatives for HBV and related illnesses, coordinates APAMSA's screening and vaccination efforts in conjunction with the IVP(s), interfaces with outside organizations involved in HBV including the LA County Hep B Coalition (up to three positions). * Bone Marrow Coordinator: Directs bone marrow donor registration drives addressing the need for greater Asian and Asian American representation in the National Marrow Registry, oversees education initiatives on the importance of registration for patients with leukemias and other life-threatening disorders (up to two positions). Apply for the National Hepatitis B Conference in Boston

There is only ONE WEEK left, before the application deadline of Friday, September 24, 2010, midnight.

This is a particularly valuable conference if you:

- Are interested in learning more about ways your chapter can get involved with hepatitis B initiatives or want to present a poster to share your chapter’s activities with others

- Want to meet renowned hepatologists, the founder of the Hepatitis B Foundation, one of the discoverers of the hepatitis B virus and many more amazing clinicians & researchers

- Want a free trip to Boston (up to $300 per person provided for flight/transportation costs, to be reimbursed at the conference. In addition, we will also provide housing). We will select 2 representatives per school. We may select more, depending on the different number of schools who apply.

I highly recommend that you take advantage of this exciting conference opportunity!
